Jim Lindsay's diary:
3 October
Mladost was not as hospitable as before. This was not its fault. It was cold and some
of the attractions like the swimming pool were being closed down for the season. We
also heard grim stories from Glasgow and others about people picking up hepatitis and
other things we had paid little heed to when we were all expecting to catch cholera.
We left late and drove through the north of the country under a full moon, which gave
it a rather Transylvanian air, with gleaming rivers and dark woods and every so often
a castle on its hill silhouetted against the sky.
After the frontier stop at Sentilj, where R once again stayed as close as he could to
the party dealing with the customs clearance for the coach, we carried on through Graz
and took the Loeben road. I can't remember whether we had a definite destination in
mind but we were getting quite casual and when we saw a nice big field of clover, it
looked as good a place as any to stop.
